Point out things that require special handling and packing, like fragile porcelains, family heirlooms and valuable antiques.
The easiest way to save money is to not move items you do not need. The whole family can decide what to give away, sell or donate. Have a moving sale and turn unwanted items into cash.
Local moves within Connecticut are done on an hourly basis. Most moves begin between 8 and 8:30am. At the end of your move a personal check or credit card (MasterCard/Visa) can be used for payment. When moving from state to state pricing is done on a weight driven tariff. These moves require a bank check made out to Atlas Van Lines or a credit card payment before delivery of your goods.
If your new home is not ready for occupancy, R. Blinderman Motor Lines has over 40,000 square feet of warehouse space. We are able to crate your items and hold them for you until you are ready to move in.
Protection that offers peace of mind
As is standard in the industry, Blinderman’s offers basic liability protection for your belongings. This coverage is limited to 60 cents per pound per article at no cost to you. However, basic liability does not take into account the value of the piece. You may decide upon full value protection, an affordable choice for peace of mind.

We can always give out basic pricing information over the telephone or email, however it is always best to have a trained relocation specialist meet with you at your home. Through our affiliation with Atlas Van Lines we can plug in all the variables to make your next relocation just right for you. When trying to cut costs packing some or all of your goods before hand is the way to go. If your situation does not allow for that we have partial or full pack options that can take care of it for you.
Proper packing can save money now and later
Proper packing before your move is essential. Poor packing is the most common cause of breakage during a move. Blinderman’s can pack for you. We use the right carton for the right item, and the right packing methods to assure a safe trip. We can even use wooden crates for crystal chandeliers and large glass table tops. The preferred way to move electronic components is in their original carton with the original packing materials. You can do this yourself if you like. If you decide to pack your own items yourself, Blinderman’s has boxes of all sizes for sale. Always remember to mark your boxes of what room they go to.Here are a few suggestions before getting started.
- Pack one room at a time; it will help when the time comes to unpack.
- Pack a couple of cartons a day, starting well ahead of the move.
- Mark all boxes with room and box number.
- Keep a carton identification log that shows the number of boxes packed per room and the total number of cartons packed. (Your Atlas Van Operator will provide an official inventory during the loading process).
- Leave space in your log for a "special comments" section to note carton conditions or the location of high-value goods. (Please notify your carrier to pack these items to ensure they are properly protected while in transit.)
- Be sure to have plenty of "filling" material available; when in doubt, use more.
- Take extra care to make sure the bottoms of all cartons are secured and will hold the weight of the contents.
- Always pack heavier items toward the bottom of the box and lighter items toward the top. Try not to exceed a weight of 50 pounds per box; it makes moving them a lot easier. Remember — the heavier the item, the smaller the carton.
